With the end of the lecture period, this year's master's seminar "Process Mining", led by Dr Christian Bartelheimer, Bernd Löhr and Alexander Skolik, has also come to a successful conclusion. Process mining is a data-based method for analysing process data. The aim is to systematically analyse and evaluate business processes so that various processes can be improved. Process mining makes it possible to visualise the process in its entirety and thus make hidden process knowledge tangible. As a cooperation project with the Krone Group, 20 students from Paderborn University not only had the opportunity to learn the basics of process mining, but also to apply what they had learnt directly in practice.
Final presentation to representatives of the Krone Group
Over the course of the winter semester, the students first learnt the theoretical basics of process mining in a theoretical part with lectures and exercises. In the subsequent practical phase, the students worked in small groups to analyse a real data set provided by the Krone Group as well as four practical case studies. This allowed the students to apply what they had learned directly to various challenges and ongoing projects within the company and present their findings to an interdisciplinary group of process and digitalisation experts from the Krone Group.
The close integration of theory and practice makes the module a valuable experience for students and companies alike.
