Support services for international students

Starting a degree programme at a new university, especially in a foreign country, can be quite overwhelming under certain circumstances. However, to make it easier for you to start your studies, the Faculty regularly organises an information event for exchange students at the beginning of each semester. You will be informed about all the important dates and interesting facts about studying at the Faculty. You will also be introduced to contact persons who can support you with various topics during the rest of the semester.

If you are looking for a platform where you can socialise with other (exchange) students, the International Office, together with Eurobiz, offers a number of activities. In addition to numerous day and weekend excursions, country evenings, football and volleyball tournaments, barbecues and parties are also organised. You will also have the opportunity to get to know exchange and Eurobiz students better at a weekly get-together.

You can find more information about support during your stay here.

Your options for studying at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics

Semester abroad

Probably the best-known option for studying abroad is the semester abroad. At Paderborn University, applications for this are organised centrally via the International Office.

M. Sc. International Economics and Management

The M.Sc. International Economics and Management is a two-year Master's degree programme that can be studied entirely in English, with course content from the fields of Economics and Management.

Double master programmes

Double Master's programmes enable students to complete a degree at their home university as well as another degree at a university abroad.

Module selection and registration

The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics is particularly important for all exchange students when it comes to choosing modules. The modules at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics usually have a scope of 5 or 10 ECTS, with 1 ECTS point corresponding to approximately 30 semester hours per week. Most modules consist of various sub-modules, which cannot be attended independently, but can only be passed as a whole.

It is particularly important for students studying abroad that the modules do not have any repeat examinations. In addition, they are only offered once per academic year (with a few exceptions). This means that if a module is not passed, it must be repeated in its entirety. This is not possible again in the same academic year, so choose your modules so that your further course of study does not depend on a single module examination. This applies in particular if you would like to switch to a further study cycle following your degree programme or if a scholarship is linked to successful module examinations.

The university offers a number of useful tools to help you find the right modules for you and your degree programme.

The module catalogue

With a few exceptions, exchange students are generally able to take the full range of modules on offer. You can always view the current range of modules in the module catalogue. In the module catalogue, select the appropriate semester and a suitable degree programme and all available courses will be displayed automatically.

Module registration

There are two registration phases for modules at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics each semester. The first registration phase before the actual start of the semester is intended to allow students to register for modules at an early stage. In the second registration phase, it is then possible to adjust previous registrations.

To the dates
1.

First registration phase

As the first registration for the modules is actually only possible after you arrive in Paderborn, the Internationalisation Office will send you a file with which you can select up to 45 ECTS in advance. If you have not yet received a file for the first module selection phase, please contact the Internationalisation Office.

2.

Second registration phase

Once you have registered independently on our online portal PAUL, you can register for the courses in the second registration phase. You will receive detailed information about PAUL in the introductory event shortly before the start of the semester.
