Study plan

Specialised practical work and educational science studies

For the teaching degree programme at vocational colleges, evidence of relevant specialist practical work of 12 months' duration must be provided. The majority of the practical work experience should be completed before completing the Master's degree programme. The subject-related practical work can also be completed as part of special internships, in particular commercial vocational training can also be recognised - recognition is carried out by the State Office for Quality Assurance and Information Technology for Teacher Training. There you can also find out which training courses and internships can be recognised and which requirements they must fulfil.

Note: Please have internships, training courses etc. recognised in good time!

In the Bachelor of Education Teacher Training Programme for Vocational Colleges, you have the option of taking the modules of the educational science programme either at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities or at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics. Specifically, §38 of the respective examination regulations states: "Students can choose to study the individual modules as part of the Teacher Training Programme for Vocational Colleges either at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (Variant A) or at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics (Variant B)".

A description of the modules offered by the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics can be found in our module handbook. These are the modules:

  • Competence Development for Teacher Training BK (WIWI Faculty) and
  • Vocational Education for Teacher Training BK.

Further information on the modules can be found on the websites of the teaching staff responsible for the modules.

The internships you have to complete as part of your teacher training programme are an integral part of these modules - these are the

Registration for the internships is usually done via the PLAZ.

FAQ - Modules and theses

You can find information on the compulsory modules and the ideal sequence of when to take which module in the study plan and in particular in your respective examination regulations and in the module catalogue.

Detailed information on registering and deregistering for modules at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics can be found here. For all Wiwi courses, module registration automatically includes exam registration (implicit exam registration). It is not necessary to register for examinations again, but it may be necessary to deregister for examinations.

You can deregister from examinations and coursework in PAUL in the "Studies" section. You can access the "My examinations" section via the "Exam administration" button in the left-hand menu bar. All examinations for which you have already registered are listed here. You can deregister by clicking on the "Deregister" button.

You can also deregister from examinations after the end of the respective examination registration period in PAUL. The cancellation period ends - as a rule - seven days before the examination date. The exact regulations on the cancellation deadlines for examinations can be found in your examination regulations.

If you do not deregister from an examination in good time and do not take the examination, you must expect the examination to be graded 5.0.

Please note the information on writing your bachelor's thesis and on registration. It is important that you register in the centralised allocation system for theses at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics by the deadline . Information on this and other registration formalities can be found here.

Recognition of previous study and examination achievements

In principle, you are welcome to have previous study and examination achievements recognised as long as they correspond in content and scope to those of Paderborn University. The Joint Examinations Board for teacher education degree programmes decides on credit transfer based on the credit transfer recommendations of the subject representatives - in the case of the Bachelor of Education with a vocational specialisation in Business Administration and Economics, this is Professor Dr. Kremer as the person responsible for the degree programme. However, a procedure has been established at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics that makes it possible to issue adequate credit transfer recommendations despite the breadth of the study programme by having the respective module supervisor decide on the respective recommendation for credit transfer of a particular module.

The modules of the vocational specialisation Business Administration and Economics in the Bachelor of Education Teaching Qualification for Vocational Colleges and their descriptions can be found in the corresponding examination regulations under §38 as well as in the appendix to the examination regulations or in our module handbook.

The Business Education Counselling team will support you with the recognition of previous study and examination achievements. You will receive further information on the recognition process during the counselling sessions.

It is also possible for you to have a final thesis in Business Administration and Economics or didactics from your Bachelor's degree programme credited - please send it in PDF format to the Business Education Advisory Service team.

Recognition of study and examination achievements abroad

At our university, you have several opportunities to gain experience abroad. The most classic option is probably a semester abroad. The Internationalisation Centre for Business Administration and Economics can help you with the planning and recognition of credits. Information on the recognition of credits can be found here.

Before your academic achievements abroad can be recognised, you must first check at which university and in what context they were achieved. In this case, please contact the Internationalisation Centre for Business Administration and Economics again. They will provide you with information on possible recognition and the further course of the recognition process. You can also find information on the recognition of credits here.
