Chair of Digital Responsibility
Welcome to the Chair of Digital Responsibility at Paderborn University. In our research and teaching, we deal with the ethical, legal and social aspects of digital technologies and create a framework for responsible digitalisation in business, administration and everyday life.
Our research
In our research, we investigate how digital technologies can be designed and used responsibly in order to make a positive contribution to the economy and society. We combine technological, economic, ethical and social perspectives in order to develop a holistic understanding of digital transformation. Advanced technologies such as AI systems in particular present companies, employees and institutions with new challenges that require a rethink of structures, decision-making processes and values. Our aim is to show ways in which digital innovations can be designed in such a way that they promote trust, ensure fairness and enable sustainable, human-centred digitalisation.
Our teaching
In our teaching, we provide a deep understanding of how digital technologies can be developed, utilised and shaped responsibly. Students learn to analyse the opportunities and risks of digitalisation from different perspectives - economic, technological, ethical, legal and social. We emphasise an interdisciplinary approach that combines technical expertise with critical thinking and the ability to reflect. After all, digital responsibility begins with each individual. It manifests itself in the conscious handling of data, in reflecting on one's own digital actions and in the willingness to consider the consequences of technological decisions for others. This awareness is crucial to making digitalisation humane, fair and sustainable. We therefore sponsor an attitude that understands responsibility as an active component of digital expertise.
