Freshers Welcome Ceremony with panel discussion and improvisation theatre
Many new faces will begin their studies at Paderborn University in the 2024 summer semester. A total of 787 students (provisional status) were welcomed on Wednesday, 3 April, in the largest lecture hall on campus - the Auditorium maximum. Almost half of them have decided to study to become teachers. "You have done everything right: you are studying at Paderborn University," said Professor Volker Schöppner, Vice President for Teaching, Studies and Quality Management, welcoming the first-semester students.
Together with Dietrich Honervogt, Deputy Mayor of the City of Paderborn, and Ulrich Schmidt, Managing Director of Studierendenwerk, Schöppner showed the new students the opportunities at Paderborn University - from the gastronomic offerings to the proximity to the city centre and the idyllic Paderborn spring area to opportunities for personal involvement. "Take advantage of the campus university and get to know nice people here - that's what makes studying fun," said Schöppner.
Insights into student life were provided by Julian Rische, first chairman of the General Students' Committee (AStA), and Dennis Kehne, deputy head of university sports. True to the motto "get through your studies healthy and successfully", they presented offers and events that students at Paderborn University can take advantage of. The new outdoor sports facility, which will be inaugurated in May, and the recharge station during the lunch break are just two of the many options.
The improvisation theatre of the university sports department then showed how quickly theory can be put into practice. Six performers conjured up entertaining scenes and smiling faces from spontaneous shouts from the audience. The event was moderated by Julia Ures. After the programme, the first-year students had the opportunity to get to know the campus and their fellow students better with subject-specific activities.
