The Network for Empirical Tax Research (NeSt) is a platform established under the umbrella of the Federal Ministry of Finance. The central aim of the network is to contribute in an institutionalised form with scientific expertise in the field of tax research to improve the conditions for the legally anchored evaluation of legislative proposals and, in particular, to create an improved data infrastructure for tax research in Germany - as well as to contribute to the further networking of empirical researchers with official statistics and the tax authorities. The appointment of Prof Dr Dr h.c. Dr. h.c. Caren Sureth-Sloane to the steering committee underlines her commitment to theory- and evidence-based empirical tax research and her outstanding expertise in this field.
Sureth-Sloane is an internationally recognised researcher in the field of taxation. With her extensive experience in analysing the effects of tax reforms on business decisions, especially investment decisions, as well as her expertise in the fields of international corporate taxation, tax complexity and tax compliance costs, she provides important building blocks for a well-founded discussion. Sureth-Sloane holds the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Business Taxation, at Paderborn University. She is also the spokesperson for the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre TRR 266 Accounting for Transparency.
As a member of the NeSt steering committee, Sureth-Sloane's tasks include further developing the data infrastructure and designing meeting formats in such a way that the effects of taxes on the state budget, on the economic decisions of actors and on the distribution of income and wealth in society can be better understood.
