In collaboration with the SG Flensburg-Handewitt professional handball team, researchers at Paderborn University have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) that is able to predict the timing of goals.
The team led by training and neuroscientist Prof Dr Jochen Baumeister and business informatics experts Prof Dr Oliver Müller and Matthew Caron have been working intensively on this groundbreaking project for several years. The progress made is now being presented to the public, providing exciting insights into the research.
In the news report "AI in sport - risk or opportunity?" on ZDF Sportstudio with Andrea Petkovic, Prof Dr Baumeister and Prof Dr Müller explain how AI works and highlight promising potential for the future. The close collaboration with the SG Flensburg-Handewitt handball team has not only led to ground-breaking developments in handball, but also opens up new perspectives for the interaction between man and machine in sports such as football, tennis, winter sports and more.
You can find the full report in the ZDF media centre. Our scientists' project is presented from minute 9, the interview from minute 14.50.
