Call for Abstracts: IBS 3MT Competition 2025

Abstract Deadline: 15th MAY, 2025

The IBS Sprachen English teaching team is excited to announce our annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, held each summer for IBS students taking English VI. This is your opportunity to showcase the research you're conducting—often as part of your Bachelor’s thesis—by communicating it clearly, concisely, and compellingly to a broader audience.

What’s involved?
Participants will create and submit:

  • A written exposé outlining the key elements of their research
  • A 3MT video explaining their thesis in an accessible and engaging way

When does it all come together?
Participants will take part in our Roundtable Sessions, which will take place over two days (13th and 14th June). During these sessions, student panels are organised thematically, and panels of topic experts engage in a dynamic discussions with their audience and co-panellists. These roundtables are a unique opportunity to receive feedback, connect your work with broader themes, and gain valuable experience in research communication.

How to Apply
Submit your abstract via the Submissions section of the English VI course PANDA by midday Thursday 15th May. Your exposé and 3MT presentation video are to be submitted by midday Wednesday 4th June. Full instructions for abstracts, exposés and 3MT videos are in your course guides for English VI.

We look forward to seeing how you bring your research to life in just three minutes!

3MT Presentation

The presentation challenges students to present their research project knowledgeably, concisely, accessibly and engagingly for experts and non-experts alike in just three minutes.

Exposé

The Exposé requires students to concisely articulate their own research project by giving an overview of the topic, explaining the research motivation, providing a review of key literature and outlining the methodology.

Roundtables

The Roundtable Sessions provide a venue for moderated discussion of topics, which are open to the public. Topics include, for example, digitalisation, TAF, sustainability, international business, entrepreneurship HR, management, and marketing.
