About the lecture:
The geoscientist and landscape photographer Christian Klepp takes you on a spectacular journey to remote places that tell the story of the Earth's constant change. With a mixture of knowledge and personal experiences, documented with his breathtaking photographs, Christian Klepp brings us closer to the unique beauty of nature and the complex workings of the earth system. What is our earth made of, where do its components come from and how does our planet work? Vivid, comprehensible and easy to understand, this lecture is a declaration of love to our planet.
About the person:
Dr Christian Klepp studied meteorology and geology at the University of Hamburg and completed his doctorate in geosciences. He worked at the University of Hamburg, including as a lecturer, and at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg. In 25 years of work in international climate research and earth system research, he has focussed intensively on questions of how the earth functions as a system of its individual parts and how it is constantly changing. He has also been photographing the Earth's unspoilt landscapes for 30 years and this knowledge, coupled with his deep love for the planet and his thirst for adventure, led to the final fusion of his profession with landscape photography in 2019. Since then, he has endeavoured to reintroduce people to the beauty and uniqueness of the earth, to instil the idea of sustainability in people's hearts and to draw attention to our responsibility in dealing with the earth. His award-winning photographs can be seen in international exhibitions and lectures.
