UPB for Future: Economy within planetary boundaries - perspectives on growth, resource consumption and ecological sustainability

Location: Hörsaal L1
Organizer: Stabsstelle Bildungsinnovationen und Hochschuldidaktik

About the lecture:

The lecture examines the question of how economic activity on a finite planet is possible in the long term
. Based on ecological economics, it will be shown why unlimited growth comes up against ecological limits and why classic prosperity indicators ignore central social and ecological aspects. Efficiency gains do not automatically prove to be the solution, as rebound effects often increase resource consumption. Against this background, global distribution issues and
possible transformation paths towards economic development within planetary
limits are discussed.

About the author:

Falk Strotebeck has been Professor of Economics at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in Meschede since 2014 and works in the Department of Engineering and Economics.
