About the talk:
The non-profit organisation cum ratione has been working for years on sustainable living and business practices, as well as safeguarding our democracy.
After the speakers have briefly introduced what cum ratione actually does – and what they do within the same organisation, despite coming from completely different specialist fields within the sustainability sector – the talk will focus on the power of the major digital corporations – such as Google, Meta, etc. – and their influence on our society. How can social media influence elections? What are the consequences of AI systems that know before you do what you’ll be having for lunch next Wednesday? And why is even the supposed argument ‘I’ve got nothing to hide anyway’ a dangerous fallacy?
About the speaker:
Lara Schröder has been with cum ratione since 2017 and has been responsible for the organisation and implementation of various sustainability projects ever since. Her Bachelor’s degree in International Business and subsequent Master’s degree in Economics, specialising in sustainability and development theory at Paderborn University, provide an ideal foundation for addressing national and global issues of social relevance. Her current areas of focus are fair sportswear and campaigning for our democracy.
Lena Wiewel has been with cum ratione since 2022 and is primarily responsible for the gGmbH’s public image, whilst also overseeing various projects – particularly in the areas of ultra-fast fashion and safeguarding democracy. She completed her double-subject Bachelor’s degree in Literature, Culture, Media and History in the Siegerland region, followed by a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature at Paderborn University. Her path to cum ratione involved a publishing internship, self-employment in project management and editing, and a role as a working student.
“UPB for Future” lecture series
For the seventh time, the Educational Innovation and Higher Education Didactics Office, in collaboration with Prof. Dr René Fahr’s research group, is organising a joint lecture series on the topic of sustainability during the winter semester 26/27. The lecture series is entitled “UPB for Future” and is aimed at students from all disciplines and at all stages of their studies, as well as staff and the interested public. In weekly lectures, the ecological, social and economic dimensions of sustainability will be explored and discussed.
