Life after graduation: Have you ever asked yourself what place you’d like to occupy in society?
Higher education imparts knowledge, academic frameworks and, at best, more than one perspective – but we rarely stop to ask ourselves what vision of the future we are actually striving for. What is the purpose of our knowledge? What happens when education primarily reproduces ways of thinking and structures of the past, whilst young people are confronted with an increasingly complex future? This lecture invites you to question ‘higher education’ and to open up a space in which students not only consume knowledge, but also develop visions of the future, play a critical role in shaping their own education and recognise their role as active contributors to society.
About the speakers:
Jule Neumann is co-president of oikos International, an international student organisation committed to transforming business and management education for a sustainable world. The focus is on empowering student change agents, engaging with local perspectives and fostering a discourse on what education for a regenerative world might look like. Her interests lie particularly in climate adaptation, urban infrastructure and the question of how we can critically examine and rethink social structures. Outside of work, Jule is a curious soul who loves spending time in nature, walking barefoot across meadows, drinking good V60 coffee and enjoying long brunches with friends.
Deborah Eulering is Chair of the Board at oikos Paderborn, a project division of Paderborn University. Students from all disciplines work together there to promote greater sustainability and a more socially inclusive community at the university and in Paderborn, organising projects, workshops and events. The aim is to embed environmental and social responsibility more firmly in teaching and practice, and to empower students to contribute actively to sustainable development.
“UPB for Future” lecture series
For the seventh time, the Educational Innovation and Higher Education Didactics Office, in collaboration with Prof. Dr René Fahr’s research group, is organising a joint lecture series on sustainability during the 26/27 winter semester. The lecture series is entitled “UPB for Future” and is aimed at students from all disciplines and at all stages of their studies, staff, and the interested public. In weekly lectures, the environmental, social and economic dimensions of sustainability will be explored and discussed.
