Sustainable transformation is often understood as a matter of strategies, technologies and structures. But can a change in external systems succeed without a corresponding change in the consciousness of the people who shape these systems?
Drawing on the course ‘Spirituality & Management’ in the Department of Behavioural Economic Engineering and Responsible Management at Paderborn University, this lecture introduces the approach of Conscious Management. It focuses on consciousness as a fundamental dimension of human action and leadership, and its significance for sustainable transformation.
Conscious Management combines the development of consciousness with a leadership practice in which responsibility, integrity, authentic communication and humility are understood not merely as skills, but as expressions of a conscious attitude. The lecture combines theoretical perspectives with practical and experiential approaches, and views sustainability as both an external and internal transformation – as a change in systems as well as the development of the consciousness of the people who shape them.
About the speaker:
Prof. Rahman Jamal is an engineer, technology and AI thought leader, author and bridge-builder between technology, management and consciousness. Following a career spanning some 30 years in senior management roles within the international high-tech industry, he now focuses on the question of how technological and societal transformation can be linked to the development of human consciousness.
As a professor and teaching staff member at Paderborn University, he combines consciousness, conscious management, responsible leadership and artificial intelligence with philosophical and spiritual perspectives.
Jamal is the author of numerous highly technical specialist books and publications. His latest book, *Der Mann ohne Muttersprache* (*The Man Without a Mother Tongue*), is also his most personal work to date, combining biographical experiences with questions of identity, language and conscious responsibility.
“UPB for Future” Lecture Series
For the seventh time, the Educational Innovation and Higher Education Didactics Office, in collaboration with Prof. Dr René Fahr’s research group, is organising a joint lecture series on the topic of sustainability during the winter semester 26/27. The lecture series is entitled “UPB for Future” and is aimed at students from all disciplines and at all stages of their studies, staff, and the interested public. In weekly lectures, the ecological, social and economic dimensions of sustainability will be explored and discussed.
