For the third time, the Office of Educational Innovation and University Didactics is organising a joint lecture series on the topic of sustainability together with Prof. Dr. René Fahr 's department in the winter semester 2024/25. The lecture series is entitled "UPB for Future" and is aimed at students of all disciplines and study phases, employees and the interested public. The ecological, social and economic dimensions of sustainability are addressed and discussed in weekly lectures.
Why do companies actually report on sustainability? Do they do this voluntarily? Can such reports be trusted at all? In order to answer these and many other questions, the lecture will shed light on practices by which companies feign ecological and social responsibility in their reporting in order to improve their image ("greenwashing"). Specific examples and studies will be used to show when greenwashing can be said to occur, what effects it has on consumers and the environment and what measures can be taken to distinguish genuine sustainability from mere pretence. The aim is to promote critical awareness and show ways to achieve authentic, sustainable corporate management and reporting.
