Conditional Master's Admission

You do not meet all of the content requirements for the Master program in International Economics and Management?

The Faculty for Business Administration and Economics offers international students opportunities to obtain the missing ECTS-credits required for successful admission into the master program ‘International Economics and Management’. Students why do not meet all of the content requirements and are missing not more than 30 ECTS can obtain the missing ECTS-credits within a conditional admission into the master program.

The Guide for Conditional Master Students provides the most important information on the conditional phase.

How is the procedure?

Before you submit your official application, you can have your documents checked in advance to ensure that they meet the admission requirements. In this preliminary examination, you will already receive a first preliminary result and thus a tendency as to how far your Bachelor's degree fulfils the prerequisites and in which filed cedits may be missing.

If you would like us to make a preliminary check of the entrance requirements, please send us a transcript of records, including information about your final GPA, the number of credits/hours per course, and the grading scheme (best grade, worst grade, grade required for passing) and language proficiency in English. Please also let us know whether you have written a BA thesis, and if so, the number of pages/credits/ECTS and its topic.

With your official application, you submit documents relating to your Bachelor's degree programme, which are examined by the admission board of the faculty. You will receive the result of the examination in your admission letter. If parts of the content-related admission requirements are missing, we offer you a conditional Master's admission.

The missing study components are already shown in the notification of admission. You already know before the start of your studies in which areas ECTS are missing for a Master's admission. The study programme coordination is available to you as a contact person for further decision-making. The staff will clarify your questions and advise you on suitable modules.

If you decide to make up the modules, you can be enrolled in the Master's  programme on condition that you make up the missing admission requirements.

You can then make up the missing credits at Bachelor level. At the same time, you can also start your Master's programme.

The credits to be made up at Bachelor level will not be shown on your Master transcript. The achievements at Bachelor's level only serve to fulfil the admission requirements; they are not taken into account in the Master's programme either in terms of grade or credits.

The admission letter lists the fields in which you do not have enough ECTS points. On this basis, you can put together a suitable pre-selection of modules. The names of the fields are analogous to the areas of the module catalogue.

As soon as you are enrolled, you can register yourself for the modules you have chosen. If you are unsure about the assignment to areas, you can clarify your selection with us.

International students who have to rely on courses taught in English can find a list of available courses in the module catalogue. Please choose "Courses available in English for exchange students" and the academic year.

If you are required to complete a BA thesis, you must apply for a supervisor through the central thesis allocation procedure.

Detailed information on course selection and the thesis procedure can be found in the information document for conditional master students.

During your conditional Master phase, you can take up to 60 ECTS in the Master. These ECTS are already completely credited to your Master's program. Further ECTS at Master level can only be taken when all Bachelor level credits have been completed and you thus change from the conditional to the unconditional Master.

You have successfully completed the exams and passed all missing credits at Bachelor level? Then you automatically change to the unconditional status of the Master and can continue your studies.

From the summer semester 2022 onwards it will be possible to transfer from the Transition Bachelor to the Master program with missing ECTS at Bachelor's level.

Missing requirements (up to 30 ECTS) on Bachelor level can then be made up directly within the Master program.

Only the formal admission requirements have to be fulfilled (this includes the English certificate).

Please contact the study office (Studienbüro) for detailed information about the switching procedure.
