Crediting German language courses

Although German proficiency is not an entry requirement for international students, we want you to integrate and feel at home here. Therefore, you must prove a minimum proficiency of level A2 GER/CEFR before concluding the master program.

Please note that only the following certificates will be recognized:

  • Certificates of the Goethe Institution (level A2 or better)
  • TestDAF (TDN 3, TDN 4, TDN 5)
  • "Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang" (DSH) (DSH 1, DSH 2, DSH 3)
  • a computer-based test ("C-Test Verfahren") after the immatriculation at the University of Paderborn

Other (external) certificates cannot be accepted.

Required proficiency can also be acquired at Paderborn University in German courses of 240-hour duration.

The German courses (up to level A2) can be credited as "German for international Students" in the elective module "General Elective" (5/10 ECTS). Grades will be weighted according to the credits starting from A.2.2 (crediting from top to bottom).

To credit these courses please submit the exam certificate in Q4.334 OR send a copy to msc-iem[at]campus.uni-paderborn[dot]de. Crediting is also possible until the registration of the master thesis at the latest.

IMPORTANT:

In case you do not want to credit any German courses, the German language proof of A2.2 must be submitted at the examination office by the registration of the master thesis (at the latest).
