M. Sc. Sascha Christian Burmeister successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on September 11, 2025. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to him on this remarkable achievement!

Mr. Burmeister’s cumulative dissertation, “Optimization Techniques for Sustainable Energy System Design”, supervised and reviewed by Prof. Dr. Guido Schryen and Prof. Dr. Heike Trautmann, explores how optimization models and methods can be applied to the design of sustainable (electric) energy systems and industrial production plans. The overarching theme of energy distribution and utilization is of global societal significance in the context of climate change and the energy transition. Within this field, numerous complex planning challenges arise, which are addressed through quantitative optimization approaches.

With the successful completion of his doctorate, Dr. Burmeister has left the university to apply his knowledge and skills in industry. Sascha will be greatly missed in our team, yet we sincerely wish him all the best and much continued success in both his personal and professional life.
