Research profile

As an interface discipline, we analyse how new information technologies can contribute to competitive advantages and social improvements. In interdisciplinary and international teams, we analyse phenomena of digital transformation holistically and see ourselves as thought leaders of the digital society.

In addition to excellence projects in basic research (e.g. SFB 901 On-the-fly Computing), we regularly carry out application-oriented collaborative projects (e.g. it's OWL research cluster, BMBF project SmartMarket², NRW project Theaterlytics) with companies and institutions. In EU projects (e.g. RISE_BPM) and international networks (e.g. Association for Information Systems, INFORMS, European Research Centre for Information Systems) we successfully collaborate with individuals, research institutions and companies worldwide.

A large number of publications in renowned journals and conferences attest to the excellence of our research. We are also committed to the interests of our research discipline as editors for journals (e.g. Business & Information Systems Engineering, Information Systems Journal, Electronic Markets), organisers of conference tracks and workshops and as reviewers.

Our research colloquium PRIME acts as a platform for our networking with leading international research personalities in information systems and with promising young researchers.
