Education pays off twice over - firstly directly, because it strengthens cognitive skills, and secondly indirectly, because it keeps people in work for longer. This longer employment in turn helps to keep people mentally fit. This is shown by an empirical analysis by Hendrik Schmitz and Matthias Westphal. The article "Bildung in der Jugend hält das Gehirn jung" was published in the journal "Wirtschaftspsychologie heute": https://www.wirtschaftspsychologie-heute.de/bildung-in-der-jugend-haelt-das-gehirn-jung/
