Theses

We offer the opportunity to write bachelor's and master's theses. In principle, you can propose your own topic for a thesis or choose from a list of suggested topics from us. However, according to the examination regulations, there is no entitlement to a topic of your choice.

We participate in the central registration procedure for bachelor and master theses of the Faculty of Economics. The assignment of students to supervisors takes about one to one and a half months. After that, you will be informed by mail about acceptance and contact persons. If you have any questions about this registration procedure, you can contact abschlussarbeiten[at]wiwi.upb[dot]de. Please note that communication takes place exclusively by e-mail. If you enter an incorrect address or do not retrieve your messages, possible missed deadlines will be at your expense.

Information on the online application process can be found at this link.

In principle, every student of the University of Paderborn can apply for a thesis. However, you should be interested in the topics and research areas of our chair and ideally be able to document this in your previous course of studies. It is not necessary to include an exposé or a letter of motivation with the application.

Please check your respective examination regulations for the modalities for theses in your individual case.

Bachelor theses should be your own small empirical projects. If you have been assigned to our professorship through the central application procedure, you will get access to a Panda course. There you will find a list of suggested topics, a schedule, and further hints and guidelines. A list of topics for the current semester can be obtained from us upon request (verena.bade[at]uni-paderborn[dot]de).

Minimum requirements for a useful bachelor thesis are knowledge on the level of the modules "Introduction to Econometrics" or "Empirische Wirtschaftsforschung".

Especially own empirical theses take place under close coordination with the respective supervisor.

Master theses should be own small empirical projects in applied microeconometrics from the topics of labor economics, education economics, health economics or social policy in a broader sense. Prior attendance of the lecture "Microeconometrics" is strongly recommended. Ideal candidates will also have taken the seminar "Seminar Microeconometrics".

The selection of topics and the work on the Master's theses take place in close coordination with the respective supervisor.
