Together with the students of Prof. Dr. Jens Müller and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dr. h.c. Caren Sureth-Sloane, we gained practical insights into German financial and tax policy during our trip to Berlin.
The morning began with a visit to a meeting of the Finance Committee in the German Bundestag, where we were able to witness how financial policy and tax laws are actively discussed and shaped.
Our second stop took us to the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF), where we were given an informative overview of the BMF's responsibilities. We discussed perceptions of fairness in the taxation of multinational companies and gained insights into the challenges involved in shaping our tax laws. Another highlight was the exclusive tour of the historic BMF building.
Finally, we had the opportunity to visit the Federation of German Industries (BDI) to learn more about the work and representation of various interest groups with regard to taxation in an active exchange.
Many thanks to Dr. Stefan Greil for the great insights into the BMF. Further thanks go to Dr. Nadja Fochmann and Benjamin Koller for the lively exchange with our students at the BDI.
