Caren Sureth-Sloane achieves top ranking in the DFG Subject Collegium for Economics and Business Administration

On November 22, the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG), which promotes knowledge-led research and free science in Germany, announced the preliminary results of the recent elections of its Subject Collegium for the term of office from 2020 to 2023.

Prof. Dr. Caren Sureth-Sloane was elected for the subject collegium of Business Administration. Thirteen professors from various well-known universities ran for the five vacant ranks in this committee. Caren Sureth-Sloane received the most votes and thus the first rank. In the DFG press release on the preliminary election result, DFG President Prof. Dr. Peter Strohschneider emphasized the importance of the subject collegium for science: „The subject collegiums are constitutive for the qualitative evaluation of funding applications. In contrast to the previous assessment, that was reviewed by highly-specialized peers, the funding applications are moved into a broader horizon of adjacent subjects. At the same time, they ensure the quality of the assessment system through their judgement and significantly contribute to the acceptance of funding decisions by the DFG. The self-organization of science in Germany is also realized by the election of the members of the subject collegiums by the respective professional communities of scientists.“ The official constitution of the newly occupied Subject Collegiums is sheduled for their first meetings in the spring 2020.

Caren Sureth-Sloane looks forward with confidence to her upcoming participation in research funding in Germany: „Being able to actively participate in the competitive selection of the best research projects and to be able to advance top-level business research is a great honor for both my university and myself, and also means a new exciting challenge that I am particularly looking forward to.“
