Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft e.V.
The aim of the independent and non-profit Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft e.V., Cologne/Berlin, is to provide well-founded business answers to current questions in an exchange between science and practice. To this end, the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft organises conferences and congresses, in particular the annual Deutschen Betriebswirtschafter-Tag. The cooperation in working groups has proved to be a particularly successful institution for knowledge transfer. Therefore, the working groups are still the centre of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft today.
Since 2011, Prof. Dr. Caren Sureth-Sloane has been a member of the board and since 2019, she has been vice president of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft. Together with Prof. Dr. Stefan Asenkerschbaumer as President of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft, Mrs. Sureth-Sloane has the honour of chairing the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft Presidium until the end of 2023 and of promoting the Society's objectives.
Upon taking office, Mrs. Sureth-Sloane said: "In the era of the internet, social media, fake news and big data analysis and the enormous increase in the amount of information of very different quality, critical feedback is indispensable for both practice and science. As an applied science, business studies needs to be compared with the reality of entrepreneurial activity to identify and research relevant questions and to critically question its knowledge and data base frequently."
