On 4 June 2025, Amin Kassab presented his research at the PARSEC Brown-Bag event on the topic of "Green Hydrogen and Green Growth: The Case of Uruguay" presented. In his presentation, he presented a macroeconomic model that analyses the effects of an energy transformation in a small, open industrial country.
Using Uruguay as an example, he showed how investments in green hydrogen in combination with a welfare-optimised CO₂ tax can lead to economic growth and higher overall social welfare in the long term. It became clear that a complete phase-out of fossil fuels is not possible under realistic conditions - green technologies alone are not enough.
At the same time, he emphasised that targeted political measures and international investment are crucial in order to make the transformation socially acceptable and economically efficient. The ensuing discussion emphasised the high relevance of the topic for global climate policy and sustainable development.
