The digital transformation is in full swing and is fundamentally changing our society. Industry 4.0 is the big buzzword that aims to keep the manufacturing industry in Germany in a leading position. But are these efforts enough to make Germany fit for the digital age? Quite a few voices claim that this is not the case and that our country is in danger of losing touch with the big players on the global markets. Too few innovative ideas and business models are being developed, the internet is still uncharted territory, and not just for the Chancellor, and the digital infrastructure is not competitive in international comparison. In addition, many companies are afraid of the effects of the digital transformation rather than utilising the opportunities that present themselves and actively shaping their future

The upcoming (disruptive) changes therefore offer the opportunity to shape our future sustainably. Corporate social responsibility and corporate sustainability are now familiar terms for many SMEs. Far too often, however, these are only used as tools for a "clean" external image. What is missing is a real rethink to make not only our planet but also our dealings with each other more conscious and therefore more sustainable. The digital transformation offers the ideal opportunity for this. What could be more obvious than to start at vocational schools and thus bring a changed digital and sustainable mindset into companies via the students?
