Welcome

to the pages of the Chair of Empirical Economics.

We conduct research primarily on topics in health economics, the economics of education, and the economics of aging. We work empirically and use individual data as well as modern methods of causal analysis. We also teach these methods in our courses.

Prof. Dr. Hendrik Schmitz,  holder of the professorship, currently also heads the Department “Health Economics” at the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research. During this time, Dr. Gunnar Gutsche will take over the professorship. Associated with this, we are increasingly devoting our research and teaching to behavioral economic issues, particularly in the area of sustainable finance.
