Solving social challenges

Impact/social start-ups not only pursue entrepreneurial goals, but also aim to bring about positive change in relation to social challenges through their activities. The topic of social/impact entrepreneurship is also close to our hearts, which is why we promote social entrepreneurship with a wide range of teaching and implementation formats.

Final theses

The Chair of Entrepreneurship offers students the opportunity to write a Bachelor's/Master's thesis. The following points should be noted:

In principle, Master's theses written at the Chair should have a clear empirical character (no pure literature reviews!).

Bachelor's theses, on the other hand, include a systematic literature review with a qualitative (classic literature report) and quantitative part (e.g. frequency analysis of the theories, journals, authors, etc. used). Bachelor's theses can also be empirically oriented, e.g. in the form of a meta-analysis that summarises the literature statistically.

The application for the supervision of Bachelor's, Master's and student research projects at the Chair of Entrepreneurship takes place in two stages

1.

Level 1

Interested students should first arrange a preliminary interview with a member of the department whose research specialisms correspond to their own interests. This interview will focus in particular on the student's motivation, but also on the question of which topics can be worked on. Preference is given to topics that correspond to the research interests of the chair. If you are unsure about your choice of topic, you can get in touch with our central contact person Johanna Häuser. On the basis of this preliminary discussion, we will decide whether to accept you for supervision of a Bachelor's, Master's or student research project.

2.

Level 2

In the second stage, the official application is made during the scheduled application phases via the central allocation procedure of the Office of Student Affairs. In addition to the standard documents listed under this link, we expect applicants to submit a concise letter of motivation (bundle all documents in one PDF file) based on the preliminary interview. Accordingly, the letter of motivation does not replace the preliminary interview mentioned under point 2). Only a preliminary interview can ensure that we actually accept applications for supervision by our chair.

Supervision begins at the start of the lecture period of each semester. You will receive information on scientific work, scientific theory, data and methods. At the kick-off event, which marks the beginning of official supervision at the chair, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify any uncertainties.
