On June 6, the UGO prizes for outstanding Bachelor's and Master's theses from the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics were awarded at Gräflicher Park Bad Driburg.
We are very proud that Aliana Görtz was honored for her Master's thesis on “The effects of firm transparency on the insolvency process: Evidence from Germany”. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Urska Kosi, Chair of Financial Accounting and Auditing at the Department of Taxation, Accounting and Finance. The 750 euro prize was presented by Thomas Koch and Melanie Cramer from Unternehmergruppe Ostwestfalen e. V.
The thesis investigates an extremely relevant and timely topic of insolvency. It offers valuable insights about the insolvency process in Germany relevant to practitioners as well as regulators. Aliana Görz finds a positive association between firm transparency and the overall insolvency outcome, where better outcome means preserving a firm and less good outcomes mean dissolving a firm. Finally, the results show a positive association between firm transparency and time until liquidation but the effect of firm transparency on the pay-out ratio is very weak.
In cooperation with the University of Paderborn, the Unternehmergruppe Ostwestfalen e. V. annually honors outstanding theses by students at the University of Paderborn who were supervised by professors from the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics.
