As part of the TAF Resarch Seminar, Giovanna Michelon from the University of Bristol (UK) held a presentation on 'Environmental Disclosure and the Cost of Capital: Evidence from the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster' on October 22, 2019. The seminar is part of the TRR 266 Seminar Series.
Giovanna Michelon’s research focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate governance. She is building upon a stakeholder-oriented approach to governance and investigating how governance shapes firms’ social responsible activities and reporting practices. In addition, she is analysing the effects and implications of shareholders’ demand for CSR. Her papers have been published, among others, in the European Accounting Review, Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, British Journal of Management, and Business Strategy and the Environment.
Giovanna Michelon is currently a professor of accounting at the University of Bristol (UK). Before that, she held a professor position at the University of Exeter Business School (UK). Between 2006-2013, she worked as an assistant professor at the University of Padova (Italy). Furthermore, she has been a visiting scholar at the University of Birmingham (UK), the Concordia University (Canada) and the University of Central Florida (US).
Amongst other awards, Giovanna Michelon received the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence in 2016 and 2017. In addition, she occupies several external positions: She is serving as Editor in Chief of the European Accounting Association Accounting Research Centre. She is also a member of the American Accounting Association and the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research council.
