For many students, it is probably the highlight of their entire study period: the semester abroad. More and more students are taking the advantage of studying experience from abroad. This is also the story of Anna Dahmen, who, in addition to her TAF Master studies, also works as a research assistant at the Chair of Tax Accounting. Anna chose the Erasmus Exchange at the University of Ljubljana, located in the capital of Slovenia.
Anna was enthusiastic about the exchange from the very beginning. With around 40,000 students, the University of Ljubljana is the biggest university in Slovenia. It also has internationally accredited School of Economics and Business (SEB) with 4,700 students. Even without Slovenian language skills, studying here is not a problem, as over 70 courses are offered in English.
While the studies have more than fulfilled Anna's expectations, student life in Ljubljana is also very multifaceted and there is great hospitality towards exchange students. There are 2,000 international students studying at the SEB, 150 of them are exchange students. To make their stay as pleasant as possible, integration of international students is taken very seriously. It starts with a “Welcome course” which introduces the local culture, food and language.
The capital Ljubljana is located in the heart of Slovenia and is the cultural and economic centre of Slovenia. It is just as diverse as the country, which has much to offer from the Alps to the Adriatic coast. In the midst of the green city, the historic castle is perched on a hill and the river Ljubljanica flows under picturesque bridges.
Anna is gaining great experiences during her exchange period in Slovenia. This includes expanding her intercultural competencies and language skills, as well as building global friendships. If you would also like to take advantage of this unique experience, then apply for a semester abroad.
