On Wednesday, 28th January 2026, Prof. Dr. Bartlitz will give his inaugural lecture at Paderborn University. Entitled "Construction and Deconstruction: The Function of Empiricism in Private Law", the lecture will address the question of what role empirical research plays in a discipline that is traditionally characterised by normative and dogmatic methods. Prof. Dr. Bartlitz will show how empirical analyses (e.g. by means of legal factual research) can contribute to the re-evaluation of existing legal structures and what opportunities and challenges this presents for modern private law scholarship.
