Would you like to continue your studies in the Master's programme at Paderborn University?

We would be delighted if you would like to continue your studies with us! For some Bachelor's/Master's transitions, the change is possible without any problems, as you automatically fulfil the content requirements for the Master's programme through your Bachelor's degree. For some transitions, however, you will have to make sure you choose the right modules during your Bachelor's degree or, under certain circumstances, enrol under certain conditions and make up the missing ECTS in parallel to your Master's degree programme.

Our overview chart gives you an overview of the various options. In the case of Management as a proportionate subject, it is also possible to transfer to the two-subject Master's programme by continuing your subjects from the Bachelor's programme.

Admission requirements

In principle, a university degree is required for admission to a Master's degree programme. In addition, you must fulfil the formal and content-related admission requirements of the respective Master's degree programme in order to be admitted to one of our Master's degree programmes in business and economics.

Application procedure

1.

Application in PAUL

The application is made in PAUL. The Master's application is formally referred to there as a change of degree programme. You can apply for several degree programmes at the same time, and you do not have to have a degree at the time of application! The last examination must be completed by 30 September or 31 March; the final grade must be available by 31 October or 30 April. Please also note the application deadlines and the general information on applications.

2.

Feedback from the Registrar's Office

The Registrar's Office will then send you information about the admission requirements, together with a request to submit any missing documents.

If modules corresponding to the content requirements of the Master's programme were selected as part of the Bachelor's programme, an additional step is necessary. After the application and the request from the Registrar's Office to submit the degree, students can have the Registrar's Office confirm that they meet the content requirements for the desired Master's programme. The confirmation is sent to the Registrar's Office by the Office of Student Affairs. Only then do students submit their degree certificate to the Registrar's Office.

3.

Examination of access requirements

The study office checks the content requirements.

4.

Feedback on the examination

  • If you fulfil the requirements and have an entry grade: you can transfer directly.
  • If the final grade is not yet available: Transfer possible until 31 October or 30 April.

Please contact the Registrar's Office for the transfer.

Please report back in any case. If you do not make use of your study place, you can have the fees refunded within certain deadlines.

Module registration in transition

There is usually a registration phase between completing the Bachelor's degree programme and starting as an enrolled Master's student, during which you can apply for modules with limited participation. Technically, however, you can only register yourself once you have been transferred, i.e. at the start of the next semester at the earliest. As a gesture of goodwill, the Office of Student Affairs offers students in this situation the opportunity to register manually for up to 20 ECTS in modules with limited attendance in the first phase so that they have a chance of admission.

In addition to the desired maximum of 20 ECTS in modules, please send a news overview (screenshots are sufficient), which shows that you will certainly be studying in the Master's programme in the next semester. If the evaluation of the last achievements is still pending, a confirmation from the professorship that the achievement has been passed is required.

It is not possible to increase this scope or to register for modules that are not limited.

Bringing forward master modules

If you have almost completed your Bachelor's degree programme, you already have the opportunity to acquire credits for a Master's degree programme. Please note: However, this is not the same as being accepted onto a Master's programme.

Prerequisites

Students on the B.Sc. International Business Studies and B.Sc. Economics programmes who have earned at least 160 ECTS credits relevant to their Bachelor's degree may apply to take up to 20 ECTS credits from the modules offered on a consecutive Master's programme. Students of the B.Sc. in Business Information Systems who have acquired at least 158 ECTS relevant to their degree in their Bachelor's degree programme may, upon application, take up to 20 ECTS from the modules offered in a consecutive Master's degree programme.

General conditions

  • Access to modules with limited capacity is not possible.
  • Admission is only valid for one semester. It is only possible to retake an early Master's examination that has not been passed after enrolment in the corresponding Master's degree programme. It is not possible to bring forward Master's modules over several semesters.
  • This regulation can only be used once, i.e. only for one semester and with regard to a Master's degree programme.

Procedure

The required application must be submitted to the relevant examination board via the study office within the revision phase. Please state in the email the Master's modules (incl. module number) that you wish to bring forward and attach a grade overview (printout from the PAUL view is sufficient!), from which your study progress can be recognised. Once the selection has been made and registered, it is no longer possible to change it . Please only send your final module selection.
