Theses

We offer the opportunity to write a bachelor's/master's thesis at our chair. In general, it is possible to propose a topic or to select one from a list. Note, however, that according to the examination regulations students cannot claim to be assigned their preferred topic.

Bacherlor's thesis

Theses are typically small empirical projects. After the end of the faculty's centralised application procedure (Zentrales Anmeldeverfahren) all candidates who were allocated to our chair get access to a koaLA-course where they can find a list with available topics. A list with topics from the current semester can be requested by email (verena.bade[at]uni-paderborn[dot]de).

The minimum requirement for a meaningful Bachelor thesis is knowledge at the level of the modules "Introduction to Econometrics" or "Empirical Economic Research".

Master's thesis

Theses are typically small empirical projects in applied microeconometrics. Topics cover problems from the fields of labor, education, and health economics or social policy in the wider sense. Previous participation in the lecture "Microeconometrics" is strongly recommended, previous participation in the project seminar "Seminar Microeconometrics" is an advantage.

Centralised application procedure

We take part in the faculty's centralised application procedure for the allocation of bachelors' and masters' theses ("Zentrales Vergabeverfahren"). The allocation of students to their supervisors takes one to one and a half months. You will be informed about the decision and your contact person by email afterwards. If you have questions about the faculties centralised procedure for the allocation of bachelors' and masters' theses contact abschlussarbeiten(at)wiwi.upb(dot)de. Please note that all communication takes place by email. If you provide a wrong address or do not retrieve your emails regularly, the consequences of failures to observe time-limits will have to be borne by you.

For more information about the allocation procedure click here.

In general, all students at the University of Paderborn can apply for a thesis at our chair. However, we expect you to be interested in topics related to the chair's fields of research and teaching. Ideally, you can document this interest with your transcript of records.

Please check the examination regulations for all details about formal requirements.
