Development of planning techniques and algorithms for durable service planning

This research project deals with planning the service of pilots and cabin crews on scheduled airlines as well as drivers of buses in public transport. The aim is planning approaches and developing algorithms for robust planning so that the service plans generated can alleviate disturbances and short-term changes. Firstly, the concept of robustness for the purpose of the research project will be defined and measurable. A stochastic optimization model will be developed, with particular focus on the European service organization in airlines and the German organisation in public transport. To ensure the models are accurate, multi-objective heuristic procedures will be used. The results will then be validated using simulation.
