The strong expansion of container traffic in recent years and also predictions for further increase in years to come leads the seaport container terminal operators facing the challenge of this increased container traffic. These many operators expand their existing capacity through new container terminals and through modernization of existing terminals.
This research project is focused on determining better support in the decision of strategic planning in layout seaport container terminals. It examines how the use of mathematical optimization models and their solution methods can aid in the planning of the layout of container terminals. Simulation studies will be conducted on models from the industrial factory layout planning and special models for the Container terminal layout planning.
