As part of our innovative teaching approach, the students of the IFRS Group Accounting module (M.184.5261), offered by professor Urska Kosi, have taken a bold step towards practical learning and joined an excursion to the Beiersdorf Campus in Hamburg. It gave the students a unique opportunity to gain insights into the practical aspects of accounting at one of Germany's leading international companies.
We were hosted by the Group Accounting division of Beiersdorf, managed by Dr. Veit Ostmeier, who is an alumnus of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, Paderborn University. His team introduced the company’s M&A strategies and gave some examples of goodwill impairments. They presented the company’s implementation of the EU taxonomy for sustainable activities, challenges surrounding the sustainability reporting and highlighted the importance of digitalisation in accounting.
By participating in the excursion, our students experienced the application of their knowledge to real-world scenarios. The excursion is a testament to our department’s commitment to providing our students with practical learning experiences and business connections as a foundation for successful future careers.
Thanks to Dennis Großmann and professor Jens Müller for coming with us. Many thanks to our hosts at Beiersdorf!
