Research

Research and teaching at our chair can best be described as applied microeconomic theory. Our main focus is on competitive and occasionally also contract economics issues, which we analyse from different perspectives and in different application contexts.

As part of the SFB 901 "On-The-Fly Computing", for example, we are researching the market for combined services from an economic perspective. The focus here is on both institutional economic issues of market organisation and competition policy issues relating to the design of the framework conditions for competition in this market. In addition, we analyse the evolutionary-economic foundations of competition in these two-sided markets.

A second focus of our work is on health economics. On the one hand, we analyse the extent to which the introduction of competition or measures to intensify it are suitable for ensuring socially optimal quality of care. On the other hand, we analyse the extent to which quality-oriented remuneration of hospital services influences the internal contract and incentive structures in hospitals or in the healthcare system in general.

Since 2020, our department has also been involved in the A:RT-D Grids project. As part of this interdisciplinary project funded by the BMBF, modern systems for uninterruptible power supply in rural regions of Africa are being developed.
